If you are searching for some out of the box thrillers and have watched the famous ones already, here's a list of 5 personally recommended hidden gems that you'll love. I've watched all of these to make the choice easier for you and if you are like me who enjoys watching a movie with a captivating build up and a totally unexpected climax, you'll love these. Thank me later!

  1. The Vanishing (1988)

Gene and Saskia's happy paradise flips upside down when Saskia goes missing. Gene, now completely obsessed with finding her, comes across some extremely unexpected and disturbing reveal when he finds out the truth

  • Theme: Mystery, thrill, emotional destruction.

  • Best part: The climax of this movie will make you numb for days. (Just a note - Not a happy one)

  • Cast: Rex Hofman, Johanna ter Steege.


2. Incident in a Ghostland (2018)


A family of three, when are attacked by 2 intruders, manage to survive the attack. Pauline (mother) and Vera (younger daughter) struggle with a traumatic aftermath while Beth (elder daughter) becomes a successful author. What happens when Beth comes back in the same house is the real mystery. This movie will make you question your assumptions about it and won't let you take you eyes off from the moment it starts.

  • Theme:  Psychological thriller, mystery, emotional damage.

  • Best part: The struggle of the protagonist feels very real and the thrill will keep you glued throughout the movie. (There's a big plot twist in mid-movie)

  • Cast: Crystal Reed, Emilia Jones, Anastasia Philips.


3. No Escape (2015)


This is a action thriller movie. The movie shows the struggle of an american family amongst a violent chaos for survival. This one will keep your heart racing the entire time so I'll suggest you watch it with your favourite comfort food.

  • Theme:  Action, thriller, violence.

  • Best part: Performances of all the leads are top notch. The thrill will keep you glued to your seat.

  • Cast: Owen Wilson, Lake Bell, Sterling Jerins.


4. Trap (2024)


Ok this one is by M. Night Shyamalan. Cooper takes his daughter Riley to a concert and is taken aback on seeing the police extra cautious at the venue. The police have a tip about a notorious serial killer coming to the venue. What will happen when you'll learn that Cooper is the one they are looking for... (This is not a spoiler, the film paces on what happens post the reveal, you'll enjoy the thrill in this one.)

  • Theme:  Thrill, Action

  • Best part: This movie is one of the best examples on how greatly a good film can keep you glued and guessing even after the big plot reveal.

  • Cast: Josh Hartnett, Ariel, Donoghue, Hayley Mills.


5. Identity (2003)


This one will start off and maintain a good Agatha Christie kind of vibe and will end with a Nolan kind of reveal. On a rainy day, 10 strangers happen to come and stay, reasons of which all being different. I won't spoil the story with too many details but yes, there's a serial killer on the loose. And believe me when I say, even when the killer is revealed, you still haven't cracked the mystery in this one. This one is a must watch!

  • Theme:  Thrill, mystery, psychological thriller.

  • Best part: It's a movie where all your assumptions will go down the drain in the last few minutes. The reveal in the climax comes in totally unexpected but everything makes perfect sense. This one is for those who love psychological thrillers

  • Cast: John Cusack, Ray Liotta, Amanda Peet.
